The mid face-lift is a pioneering new cosmetic procedure that has gained in popularity in recent years. With traditional facelifts, the middle section of the face is generally not altered very greatly. This means that a facelift patient may well have an improved contour of the lower face, but around the mid part of the face they could still have loose skin and wrinkles, making them look older than they truly are.
With a mid face lift the middle section of your face is completely smoothed out and tightened, reaching areas around the nose and below the eyes that a traditional facelift procedure just can’t reach.
Flat upper cheeks are a tell-tale sign of the ageing process, but with our innovative mid facelift procedure, you can reverse the signs of ageing, creating full cheeks and smooth skin under your eyes once again. During this procedure, the fat pad in the cheek is elevated creating a completely revitalized, rejuvenated, and youthful appearance. This surgery is often performed in tandem with traditional facelifts in order to create improved facial harmony and a rejuvenated appearance across both the lower and middle sections of the face.
Mid Facelift Surgery FAQs
Am I a suitable candidate for this surgery?
Have you found that your cheeks are flatter with age? Do you have wrinkles underneath your eyes that are prematurely ageing you? Or perhaps you have already had a traditional facelift but it did not adequately address the loose skin and wrinkles around your cheeks and eyes. If any of these descriptions apply to you, mid facelift surgery could be a great surgical option to smooth out wrinkles and make your cheeks look plumper. Candidates should be psychologically stable and have realistic expectations about the results they can achieve from this surgery.
How should I prepare for my midface lift?
It is advisable to stop smoking at least 2 weeks before your surgery, and you may also be required to stop taking certain kinds of medication at this time. This is because smoking and some medications can thin out the blood and cause complications in the operating room.
What does the surgical procedure entail?
After being put under anaesthesia, the surgeon will make incisions around the hairline at the temples and possible on the inside of the mouth. This gives the surgeon the required access to elevate the fat pads of the cheeks and to tighten the skin. The small incisions will be fixed together with sutures and the whole procedure should take no longer than two hours to complete.
What is the recovery process for midface lifts?
Mid facelifts are less invasive than regular facelifts and our patients usually experience fast and uncomplicated recoveries. You may be required to wear a bandage on your face immediately after surgery to prevent any bleeding, and you should avoid rigorous exercise for around 2 weeks. Most of the bruising and swelling will subside within around 3 days, and you will also be able to return to work 3 days after surgery.
Would I benefit more from a regular facelift or a midface lift?
This really depends on the particular areas of your face that you would like to change. If hollow cheeks and wrinkles beneath the eyes are a problem for you, a mid facelift could be a great solution. If you also have excess and sagging skin around the neck and jawline, you may want to consider a regular or lower facelift in tandem with a mid facelift. In your consultation, your surgeon will be able to assess your face in order to determine which procedures would benefit you the most.
Will I have any scars?
You will have some faint scarring on your hairline where the surgeon will make his incisions during surgery. Because of the strategic placement of these incisions, your scars will hardly be noticeable and easily hidden.
Are there complications associated with midface lift surgeries?
There are complications associated with all cosmetic surgery procedures, and mid facelifts are no different. There is a small risk of bleeding, infection, formation of fluid beneath the skin, and numbness. Our surgeons have performed many mid facelifts and take every precaution to ensure that no complications occur during or after surgery.
