Sculpting A More Flattering Male Abdomen
When you think of tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, you automatically think that it’s a procedure for women. The fact is, more and more men are seeking surgical help for problem areas of the body. For men who are experiencing excess skin and fat around the belly area that exercise alone simply can’t resolve, a male tummy tuck with our specialist surgeons is the procedure of choice.

Most often, men who have lost a significant amount of weight are left with excessive, sagging skin around their stomach area. Or perhaps there are fatty deposits that won’t disappear no matter how many hours are spent in the gym. A tummy tuck with can remove excess skin and fat, as well as tighten the abdominal wall, creating a slim and strong abdominal contour.

Dr. Mihail COJOCARU , is one of the leading surgeons in the area of male abdominoplasty, and has pioneered drain-free male tummy tuck surgery that results in less discomfort and a faster recovery for patients.

Are You A Candidate for A Male Tummy Tuck?
First, know that a male tummy tuck is not a substitute for losing weight.  The surgery is designed to remove the excess skin and fat deposits around your stomach that won’t go away no matter how much exercise you do. If you’re close to meeting your weight loss goals but find it difficult to remove the sagging skin and excess fat from your abdomen, you’re probably a good candidate for a male tummy tuck.

In addition, you should:

  • Be in good health
  • Stop smoking for at least two weeks prior to surgery
  • Review your medications with Dr. Mihail COJOCARU , during your consultation – he may have you stop certain medications prior to surgery

The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for a male tummy tuck is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Zegrea.

Male Tummy Tuck FAQs
How should I prepare for my tummy tuck?
There really isn’t much preparation for the procedure. You should, however, stop smoking 2 weeks before surgery in order to ensure a full and uncomplicated recovery. If you are planning on losing weight, you should do it prior to the surgery, not after. You should be at your best weight and have least amount of intra-abdominal fat possible.

What happens in the operating room?
You will be placed under general anaesthesia. Dr. Mihail COJOCARU , will make an incision along your pubic hairline, and then will remove excess skin and fat. The remaining skin is pulled tight in order to create a firm abdomen, and then sutured together. Some liposuction may be performed to help sculpt the abdomen. Some patients choose to add additional liposuction (such as flanks) to their tummy tucks. The procedure will take about 1-3 hours to complete.

What is the recovery process for a male tummy tuck?
Thanks in part to Dr. Mihail COJOCARU’s drain-free technique, the recover for a male tummy tuck is usually quick and uncomplicated. For a traditional tummy tuck that involves drains, you will be able to return to work in about 10 days. With a drain-free tummy tuck, you should return to work much sooner. You will be swollen and bruised, and should avoid any vigorous physical activity or lifting for about 6 weeks.

What about a mini Tummy-Tuck?
The decision to have a mini tummy tuck depends on the amount of excess tissue and skin that has to be removed, and where it is located on the abdomen. If you only need to have excess tissue in the lower abdomen removed, then a mini tummy tuck may produce the results you are looking for. Dr. Mihail COJOCARU , will determine the best procedure for your specific case.

Would liposuction or a tummy tuck be better?
Liposuction is a good way to remove excess fat in the abdominal area, but it can’t create abdominal tightness, nor remove excess, sagging skin. Many patients hope to get away with only liposuction, however using liposuction to replace a tummy tuck is never a good idea, and the results are never as good as a proper tummy tuck. You can discuss your specific case during your consultation with Dr. Mihail COJOCARU.

Will there be scarring?
Yes, there will be a scar on the pubic hairline, which is usually hidden by swimwear or underwear.

Are there any complications associated with male tummy tucks?
As with all cosmetic surgery, there are some risks involved. Risks associated with male tummy tuck include excessive bleeding, infection, swelling, scar irregularities and blood clots, but they are rare. Our operating suite is state-of-the-art, and we do everything we can to minimise the risks associated with surgery. Most importantly, Dr. Mihail COJOCARU , and his team have detailed protocols in place to prevent complications from occurring.

One note about weight loss: a tummy tuck is not the right procedure for patients who want to lose weight. Tummy tuck should be considered after you have completed your weight loss.
