For men and women who have sagging and loose skin around their jawline and their neck, a lower facelift performed by our expert surgeons could the perfect solution to create a youthful, wrinkle free facial appearance once again. Unlike a full facelift, the lower facelift only addresses the lower portion of the face and not the cheeks. For this reason, a lower facelift is not as invasive as a full facelift procedure and is often chosen by patients who have already had a full facelift in the past and require some additional work around the area of their chin and neck.

For other patients, the lower face may simply be a problem area where excess skin has gathered over the years and has contributed to premature aging. A lower facelift can successfully remove the excess skin and tissue in this area, addressing deep riveted jowls and downturned corners of the mouth to create a newly taut and yet completely natural appearance in the face.

Lower Facelift Surgery FAQs

Am I a suitable candidate for this surgery?
Most people who have loose and sagging skin around the jawline and the neck could benefit from this surgery. Former facelift patients may want to have this area revisited without committing to a full facelift again, and some patients may simply want to address the sagging skin around their jaw that is prematurely ageing them and becoming a cause of lost confidence. Both men and women can have lower facelift surgery, and while it is more common for older patients to choose this procedure, younger patients with concerns about excess skin and wrinkles on the lower face can be suitable candidates too.

How should I prepare prior to surgery?
If you are a smoker, you should stop smoking cigarettes at least 2 weeks before your facelift takes place. You may also be required to stop taking certain types of medications and supplements that thin out the blood and can cause complications within the operating room

What does the procedure entail?
This procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed under local anaesthesia. Once the anaesthesia has been applied, the surgeon will make small incisions in front of and behind the ears. This provides the surgeon with the necessary access required to trim excess skin, pull the remaining skin tight, and create a more youthful, wrinkle free facial contour. The incisions will then be sealed with sutures and the whole procedure should last for no longer than 2 hours.

What is the recovery process for lower facelift surgery?
The recovery process for lower facelifts conducted by our surgeons are typically fast and uncomplicated. You will be required to wear a tight bandage on your face immediately after the surgery to prevent any bleeding. Most of the swelling, bruising, and discomfort that you experience will subside within 3 days of surgery, and you will also be able to return to work at this time.

Should I have a lower facelift or full facelift?
If your main area of concern is your jawline and your neck, a lower facelift is likely to be the best surgical solution for the removal of your excess skin. If, however, you have concerns about wrinkles and excess skin on other parts of the face such as your cheeks, a full facelift could be a better solution. In your consultation you will have the chance to talk through all of your reasons for surgery and your expectations in order for the surgeon to best determine which procedure will benefit you the most.

Will I have scars?
Incisions will be made behind of and in front of your ears on the hairline, and this is where your very faint scars will be located. Our surgeons appreciate that facelift patients can be concerned about the prominence of scars and they are all very skilled at creating incisions in inconspicuous places so that any scars are always well hidden.

Are there complications associated with lower facelift surgery?
There are some complications associated with this surgery, including bleeding, infection, numbness, and formation of fluid beneath the skin. The bandage that is applied to you after surgery will prevent excessive bleeding, and in our state of the art clinic, you can rest assured that both the surgeon and his team of experienced staff will do all that they can to look after you and minimise any complications both during and after your procedure.
